The and the Downtown Women's Center have broken ground on 63 affordable apartments in Montebello. The nonprofit foundation, based in Kern County, and the Downtown Los Angeles-based homeless services provider have begun building the four-story complex at 112 S. 6th Street, the Whittier Daily News reported. It will replace a 1.5-acre vacant lot. The project, dubbed Vista de J.J. Rodriguez, was named after a civil rights and labor leader and will serve families, survivors of domestic violence and formerly homeless residents.
